This boat was constructed by Crichton-Vulkan at Abo under the supervision of N. V. Ingenieurskaantor voor Scheepsbouw, an engineering firm out of Germany. This boat was launched on May 10, 1933 and underwent extensive sea trials. It represents Germany’s prototype for u-boats leading up to the Second World War.
This is a project I am currently working on. I hope to be able to develop a complete model of the submarine’s internal structure. I am trying to gather any information on construction practices of that period. If you happen to have any drawings or photographs depicting the internal structure of this boat or Type IIA-D please drop me a line.
